Intro

A recent report by Kelley Blue Book, shows that for the first time ever the average transaction price (ATP) of a new vehicle in the U.S. was above $50,000. Of course, the average Mercedes-Benz is quite a bit higher than that. In September of 2025 the average new Mercedes cost $75,700. That is a 6.1 percent increase over the same time last year. Buying a new Mercedes is not cheap. However, buying a pre-owned Mercedes is a bargain.

As much as we love Mercedes vehicles, we have to admit that most models depreciate rapidly. That is not good news for the original owners. But it is great news for those who are looking to get a fantastic vehicle at an equally fantastic price.

That got us thinking. What are some used Mercedes models that you could buy with that same $75K you would spend on an average new Mercedes? Eight great deals popped in our heads right away. And there is everything you may want on this list, from classic roadsters to iconic SUVs and mega-powerful sports cars. It is all here for you for the price of a new E 450. Which of these would be your pick?

1. 1963 – 1970 230 SL

The Mercedes-Benz W 113 was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. It was a beautiful car back then, and it remains a beautiful car today. Classic good looks, a lovely straight six engine, and old-fashioned Mercedes build quality. What’s not to like? You can easily grab a very nice example for $75K. These cars offer a ton of cachet for the money, and the days of depreciation on these are over. Will it have the technology and safety features of a new Mercedes? No. But what it lacks in that department, it more than makes up for in road presence.

2. 1971 – 1989 SL-Class

The next-generation SL isn’t bad either. For nearly two decades, these cars were the symbol of wealth and prosperity. And for a $75K budget, you can buy some of the nicest examples on the planet, or pick up two or three driver-grade cars. These cars never go out of style and are a great used Mercedes buy.

3. 2014 – 2019 S 65 AMG Sedan

Now we are getting into the newer stuff. And the S 65 AMG Sedan delivers a ton for the money. How about a 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo engine with 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque? When these were new, they cost nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Today, you can find examples with around 50,000 miles on them for less than $75K. That is one heck of a discount. These cars won’t be cheap to run, but we are talking about a V12 super sedan for middle-of-the-road Mercedes sedan money.

4. 2016 – 2018 G-Class

You are not touching a new G-Class for $75K. However, you can easily find an example from 2016 to 2018 at that price point. And to most people on the street, it will look just like a brand-new model. These things are unstoppable off-road and announce your presence with authority on the road. A new G-Class starts at $150K, assuming your local dealer will sell you one without tacking on extra fees. Skip all that nonsense and grab one of these beauties for far less money.

5. 2018 AMG GT Roadster

We began our list with a couple of old school roadsters. They have all the style and classic driving experience. But what they don’t have is power. What if you are the type who enjoys some performance with your roadster? How about 0 to 60 mph in the low 3-second range and a top speed not too far away from 200 mph? Fast enough for ya? And you get that in a curvaceous beauty of a car that stands out from the crowd. And you can find these all day long for less than $75K.

6. 2019 AMG GT 63 S Coupe

How about a half-price 630-horsepower four-door that gets to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds? These cars are only about 5 or 6 years old, yet you can get them for about $100,000 off original MSRP. And thanks to the AMG-tuned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, you also get plenty of grip when the weather turns ugly. Just make sure to swap out those Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires when things get slippery.

7. 2019 AMG E 63 S Wagon

What is the only thing cooler than a high-powered sedan? A high-powered wagon. Forget the SUV nonsense. If you need more space, just get yourself a wagon. And this particular wagon comes to the party with 603 horsepower. 60 mph arrives in about 3.5 seconds, and the top speed is 180 mph. You will never have to worry about the ice cream melting before you get home.

8. 2023 S 500

For some, only a Mercedes S-Class will do. But a new one will set you back at least $120K. And as great as they are, they depreciate like they were thrown off a cliff. You can get a 2023 S 500 with less than 30,000 miles on it for under $75K. Under $70K if you look around a bit. That is nearly $50K off on a car that is still practically brand new. These are great used Mercedes bargains and the smart way to get yourself into an S-Class.
