More Power Output

The latest project by the German tuner G-Power is a Mercedes-AMG SL63 that originally pumps out 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. The twin-turbo 8-cylinder 5.5-liter V8 was pushed to churn 789 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, making this a powerful yet elegant beast.

A Legendary Merc

The SL63 is a vehicle that has defied today's shortened life cycle for the automotive industry. Produced over a decade ago, previous models are still on the market, and have been there for a very long time. The most recent example is about to have its 8th anniversary, and is still as sharp, elegant, and luxurious.

Mechanical Upgrades

The tuned 789 SL63 got a pair of new turbochargers that cost $6,109, new stainless steel exhausts for $2,036, and reviewed downpipes with sport catalytic converter for $4,603. A new software dubbed the G-POWER V3 performance software was also included at a cost of $3,741. According to G-Power, it helps the engine make the best out of the entire upgrade. A final removal of the top speed limited adds an extra $564 to the package.

More Speed

All the new parts allow the SL63 to get from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Compared to the stock example, this is 0.5 seconds quicker. The guys at G-Power claim that once the top speed limiter is removed, the SL63 can go beyond 211 mph with all the additional mechanics. This is 25 mph more than what a regular luxury roadster equipped with the AMG Driver's Package can do.

Enhanced Turbines

For more power, the power unit turbochargers were modified to include larger compressor wheels and turbines. A new CNC-optimized housing and turbine blades were also installed with the aim of reducing the exhaust temperature and gas back pressure. The air intake and circulation was also modified for efficiency.

A New Set of Wheels

In addition to the mechanical upgrades, G-Power includes a special set of 21-inch wheels that cost $8,479. The rims are made of ultra-light high-tech aircraft aluminum and come "HURRICANE RR" forged. The twin-spoke set has G-Power's "Diamond Cut" high-sheen finish coated in jet black. The team added wide 295/30 ZR21 and 265/30 ZR21 high-performance rear and front tires to give the car enough safe road holding and grip even at lighting speeds.

Total Cost

When you combine the cost of carrying out all the upgrades on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63, you get $25,532 worth of improvements. This shows that upgrading the generous dash of sportiness and superior drive in the classic SL 63 isn't cheap. G-Power is, however, yet to put a price on the final car.
