AMG's biggest performance SUV

It's big - and it means business. If you like your high-performance AMG vehicles oversized, there is nothing bigger than Affalterbach's 2021 GLS63. With bold new styling upgrades and a huge seven-seater configuration, this is an AMG with a huge presence. It might be a touch trickier than some of the smaller AMGs to park but if you want to go anywhere you desire, at speed, with an entire family wishing to join, the GLS63 is your ticker.

A big engine needs to be cooled - plenty

One of the 2021 GLS63's most striking features, regards its chrome-coated grille. The Panamericana-design front cooling surface now has more defined vertical slats, which reflect brilliantly in direct sunlight.

All the boost

Behind that imposing new grille design is AMG's celebrated 4-liter bi-turbocharged V8 engine. In the GLS63 application, it is good for 603hp and 627lb-ft of torque. Mild-hybridization boosts efficiency and adds some additional potency at peak throttle demand. How quick? Amazing fast, in fact, for a vehicle of its size. Despite its size, the GLS63 is good for 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 174mph.

Balancing the power

Balancing the GLS63's dynamics is a four-corner air-suspension system. It is reactive and intuitively adapts to cornering loads, steering angle and throttle input, to prevent body roll. Mercedes-Benz's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system ensures secure traction on any surface, or over off-road terrain, and with a nine-speed automatic transmission, you are never short a gear.

It seats all the way to the back

What really differentiates this GLS63 from other AMGs, is its third-row seating. Thanks to the huge wheelbase and generous platform, engineers can accommodate a third-row of passengers. These two aft seats are tailored to the same comfort and ergonomic standards as the first and second-row seats, ensuring that the occupants back in the nose bleed section, never feel forgotten.

A massive flat load area

Fold the second- and third-row seats down, and the GLS63 ushers in a massive load area. Surfboards, skis, mountain bikes, well-behaved pets, you name it! and the GLS63 can deal with it. The cabin architecture is more conducive to true SUV purposing than any other AMG.

Like an S-Class, but further off the ground

True to its billing as the S-Class of SUVs, GLS63 features a stunning blend of cabin materials. Leather, wood, and metal combine to deliver the richness of tones, textures, and tactility that Mercedes-Benz's limousines have always been known for. The front seats have a variety of massage functions, whilst there is also a cabin fragrance dispenser, to calm the mood whilst you are traveling along.

Big wheels and massive brakes

To roll along with AMG's seven-seater SUV, you need big wheels and even bigger brakes. The GLS63 can be had with 23-inch alloys and behind them, you can have huge 15.7-inch brakes. Those enormous stoppers are very important as the GLS63 is capable of impressive speeds - and decelerating an SUV which is close to 6000lb, when fueled and seated with passengers, is no small task.
