EQC Edition 1886 Shows How Far Mercedes-Benz Has Come

With powerful electric motors and all-wheel drive, EQC is Mercedes-Benz's first true EV. To celebrate the achievement, they have revealed a special edition version.

Remembering the past - securing the future

Mercedes has been in business for a very long time. For well over a century, it has been a technological force in the global automotive industry. And with its new EQC battery-powered SUV, Mercedes-Benz is looking towards the future. No surprise, then, that the EQC range will also include an 1886 edition.

Layered front styling - to differentiate

The first noticeable details which distinguish this 1886 edition car from other EQC SUVs, is its grille. Although it is strange to have a grille on an electric car, which does not have an engine that requires cooling, Mercedes-Benz designers wanted to retain the grille for its design influence. The 1886 grille is a louvered design, slightly different to other EQCs.

Unique wheels

Viewed side-on, you'll notice the second significant styling change on the 1886 EQC: its wheels. The 20-inch rims feature a slightly different ten-spoke design with blacked-out detailing.

Juxtaposition of new and old

The final exterior styling change between a standard EQC and the 1886 edition car, is this front quarter panel badge. Finished in classic black on silver, it plays on Mercedes-Benz's traditional corporate identity and sits next to the EQC badge - which is blue, the color symbolizing clean mobility.

Neat badge on the utility bin

Mercedes-Benz has a long history of column shifting transmissions. This design frees-up a lot of space in the center console. The EQC 1886's piano-black surfaced utility bin lid features model-specific branding, which contrasts strongly with the dark cabin architecture.

Seats remind you what you are driving

To remind you that you are driving an 1886 Edition EQC each time you open the door and get inside, are badged seats. Stitched into the EQC's seats are 1886 logos, positioned in the middle of the first horizontal cushion bulge.

This is unchanged

One aspect where there are no 1886-specific changes is EQC's instrumentation. The dual-widescreen driver information and all-round infotainment system are served by two adjoining 10.25-inch screens. Resolution is excellent and contrast, even in direct sunlight, remains at a standard you would expect from the very best Smartphones.

A powerful EV

The 1886 edition features an unchanged power- and drivetrain to other EQC models. Energy is stored in an 80kWh battery, which drives a pair of electric motors. Total system output is an impressive 402hp, with Mercedes-Benz claiming a range of 277- and 293 miles. Silver is the only color Mercedes-Benz will offer the 1886 edition EQC in and the vehicle has been confirmed for North America, with the first cars arriving in 2020.
