Michael Schumacher's Other Company Car

When Mercedes-Benz opened the door for Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One they gave him two cars to drive. The first was a 2010 Mercedes F1 car - arguably one of the fastest and most technologically advanced cars in the world at that time. The second car wasn't too shabby either - a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG wagon, one of the most powerful naturally aspirated small cars ever. And whether you're a Schumacher fan or love fast wagons, you'll appreciate this one, which was up for sale at Bonham's recently.

A Well Maintained Example

Even if it hadn't been owned by Michael Schumacher, this Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 is worth owning. It only has 150,000 kilometers on it, the equivalent of 94,000 miles. Most cars this age have almost twice that mileage. It's also very well maintained and has a complete service history. Plus it comes with a new set of tires. One of the owners after Schumacher was a Mercedes-Benz engineer. They extensively reconditioned the AMG wagon, returning it to factor spec before selling the car to its current owner in 2018.

Basic Black Interior

The interior of this AMG C63 is all black and all business. Mercedes-Benz interiors, especially on the C-Class are typically toned down, lacking ornamentation. That's not to say they are bad or poor quality. It's just that Mercedes prioritizes functionality over form. As a seven time world-champion Formula One driver, Michael Schumacher wouldn't be bothered by the C63's interior. His office is a carbon fiber tub that he gets strapped into. If anything, he probably preferred the functional layout.

AMG God of Thunder

The AMG 6.3 liter V8 is very businesslike too - If hurling thunderbolts like Thor is your business. Depending on the vehicle the naturally aspirated engine produces around 600 horsepower. This God of Thunder rumbles menacingly at idle and roars like an angry grizzly bear when it approaches 7,000 rpm. With this beast on tap, the C63 doesn't accelerate as much as it gets flung at warp speed.

Wagons Deserve A Comback

Small wagons were the original crossover vehicles and they deserve to make a comeback. They offer the same amount of room as a small crossover with much better performance. Wagons have a lower center of gravity than crossovers which gives them better handling. In fact, wagons handle just as well as their sport-sedan and coupe counterparts. And in some cases, they handle better because the extra glass and sheet metal behind the rear seats helps improve weight distribution.

The Ideal Car for a Formula One Family Man

Michael Schumacher is one of the all-time great Formula One drivers. A dominant presence in the sport, he retired for the last time in 2012. He's owned a number of exotic cars, including some rare modern Ferraris from his time at Scuderia Ferrari. But Schumacher was also a family man and spent lots of time with his wife and children. His son Mick, now a Formula One driver himself, would accompany him to races and sit in his father's car. Even though he owned this AMG C63 wagon for a short time, it was the ideal car for him. A blazingly fast yet practical car for every occasion.
