Great Condition

This 1953 22OA Cabriolet is 66-years-old but it's still in outstanding condition. And that's hardly surprising when you consider that the car comes with over $40,000 worth of service receipts.  The 220 actually had two different cabriolet models and were conceived as a sort of lofty sporting car for select few. First, there was the 'A' model and later the 'B' model that was derived from the W187 coupe.

Long Ownership

It's always nice to see that a classic car has had the same owner for a good deal of time. This 220A Cabriolet has had the same owner since way back in 1977. This person has doted on the 220A meticulously with service being done on time and preventative measures been taken.

Drivetrain

Propelling this classic beauty is a 2.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine which for 1953 was pretty sophisticated. All of this car's power runs through a beautifully crafted 4-speed column shift manual transmission. The 220A was an improved version of the 220 with a higher compression engine.

Interior

The cream interior is reasonably worn and showing signs of its age but it's clearly been well looked after. If anything, this aged look gives the car an added air of class and a sense of character.

Exterior

The 220A Cabriolet is finished in a two-tone Cream and Brown color scheme. This exterior is classic Mercedes and in fantastic condition. This model is a prime example of prewar Mercedes production virtues with rear-hinged doors and landau bars. When these cars debuted they went for nearly $5,000 and today they are great investments for collectors.

Folding Top

The Brown folding top on this model is pristine: it looks like it was fitted yesterday. The top's folding mechanism is easily one of this car's classiest features. From 1951 to 1955, only 1,297 Cabriolet As were produced. The sedan versions of the 220 rolled down assembly lines but the Cabriolets were carefully handbuilt.

The Spares

Everyone loves getting some spares when buying a classic car. This model comes with tools and a spare tire. The only question is, could you be tempted to place a bid?
