Open Air GT R

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is in the upper echelon of what the manufacturer offers in terms of performance. And with the GT R Roadster, that high-performance AMG experience can be had with an open-air vibe. For Ronald A. Bussink, however, the conventional drop-top wasn't quite enough air directly in the face, as it appears!

Inspired by Formula 1

Having made his name as a product designer, Bussink has turned his attention from amusement rides and leisure facilities to the automotive realm. This creation is a conversion of an already exclusive AMG vehicle, with production limited to 750 units. The look and functionality of the Bussink GT R Speedlegend takes inspiration from Formula 1 cars, with the incorporation of a halo.

Speedbow

The "Speedbow," as Bussink calls it, is arguably the most prominent design feature here. We've seen open-air roadsters and speedsters in the past, such as the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss from Mercedes-Benz. But none comes to mind with this particular racing-inspired look.

Form and Function

The Speedbow also serves as a place-holder for the lighting and other features that have been eliminated with the removal of the roof and windshield frame.

Performance Upgrades

With the removal of the convertible top mechanism and the A-pillars, Bussink claims that the GT R Speedlegend sheds 220 pounds in comparison to the factory GT R Roadster. It also lowers the center of gravity, naturally. In terms of performance, Bussink also offers an optional power upgrade, bringing the car's output to 850 horsepower, a massive 273-HP jump from the factory GT R's 577.

Optional GT R Pro Front

Other optional upgrades for the GT R Speedlegend include a choice to replace the GT R's front fascia with that of the GT R Pro. This option might be useful for those who plan to use the car on the race track and could take advantage of the additional downforce.

Limited Run

Bussink plans on a very limited run of just 5 units for this special-edition AMG, all of which are apparently already spoken for. Pricing information has not been made available. What we do know is that each of them will come with a color-matching helmet and an Armin Strom watch.
