Latest Addition

Mercedes-AMG is still rolling out new models and, for Americans, it's still not enough. California, in particular, has been behind a quarter of the sales Mercedes has made so far. This has warranted the German manufacturer to keep the models coming, and it doesn't seem like it will stop any time soon. The AMG 53 is a new lineup that tops the AMG 43 and sits below the high-powered AMG 63.

Exclusive for three Cars

The 53 magic will be fitted in the following models: the E-Class sedan, the E-Class convertible and coupe, and the CLS Coupe. The lineup will be differentiated by black side mirror caps, circular twin pipes, a rear lip spoiler, and two blades that cut across the diamond-styled mesh insert on the radiator grille. Mercedes also added 20-inch wheels designed exclusively for the AMG 53. Two power domes run along the hood to give a hint of how much power is underneath.

Power

The 53 packs a new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that churns an incredible 429 horsepower. It runs on a 48-volt electric starter-generator nicknamed "EQ Boost." This adds an extra 21 horsepower to the vehicle, providing instant torque that launches the car in a quick and smooth takeoff. The auxiliary compressor aids the turbochargers in delivering power quickly without delay.

Performance

The AMG 53 is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission that wastes no time in making shifts. Maximum torque output stands at 384 pound-feet. The EQ Boost is capable of delivering an additional 184 pound-feet at low speeds. AMG claims that the E 53 coupe can get from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. A throaty exhaust sound accompanies the speed in Sport and Sport Plus modes. The Eco Drive mode kicks in to provide efficiency and save on fuel whenever needed.

Interior

The interior of the AMG 53 is a mixture of elegance and sport. The soft leather features contrast stitching across the comfortable sports seats. Mercedes built the dash to include dual widescreen displays, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and jet-inspired air vents that separate the 53 lineup from other models. Buyers also get an infinite number of colors for ambient lighting.

GLE 53

Currently, the E 53 and CLS 53 are already on sale. Mercedes is expected to launch another addition into the lineup: the GLE 53. It will have the same engine but with better off-road capabilities as seen in the GLE-Class. It will also be the first in the lineup to have the MBUX interface and a voice-activated assistant that will find the closest grocery store and remind you to perform various tasks as needed.

Price

The AMG CLS 53 is priced at $80,895. The E53 sedan comes in at $73,545 for the base model. The Coupe tops that slightly at $74,695. The E53 Cabriolet is the higher-priced E-Class with a price of $80,350. For those with a taste for the finer things in life, there are multiple options available which add a significant amount of pizzazz to all the models.
