The AMG 560 SEC Widebody stands near the top of Mercedes-Benz's greatest cars ever, but this restomod tribute might be even better than the real thing.

Paying Tribute

Of the many coveted cars in Mercedes-Benz history, the AMG 560 SEC Widebody is among the rarest, most expensive, and coolest machines ever to emerge from the German automaker. With just 50 produced, this legendary car is a rare sight these days. And that's what prompted this incredible restomod tribute, a car that's now going up for grabs at Russo and Steele's Scottsdale auction on January 16-19.

One-Off Job

This particular car started out life as a 1989 560 SEC with just 32,000 miles on the clock. From there, Bespoke Motors of Southern California gave it a complete ground-up restoration, even going so far as to create a custom, one-off widebody kit fashioned from carbon fiber. Replica AMG front and rear fascias, rocker panels, and spoiler were also custom made specifically for this car as well.

Old and New

The inside of this Mercedes is every bit as gorgeous as the outside. Period-correct Recaro seats are covered in hand-stitched red leather, while Gray Zebrawood veneer covers the dash, center console, and door panels, adding some proper contrast to the mix. This mix of old, new, and custom is complete with an incredibly cool AMG Momo steering wheel.

Work of Art

The incredible wood accents also cover the outer rim of the steering wheel, which really completes the look. From there, Bespoke added a custom modern stereo system with a digital sound processor, which gives this old school ride a distinctly new school sound to go along with its artistic interior design.

Up to Date

Bespoke also gave this Mercedes a new school stance and modern handling characteristics courtesy of their own custom coilover setup. A big brake kit graces the front and rear, which seriously upgrades its stopping ability. A new stainless-steel exhaust system adds a bit of grunt, while wide 17x10" front and 17x12" rear wheels and tires look great and further aid the car's cornering prowess.

One Shortcoming

The only downside to this stunning ride is that it doesn't pack AMG's glorious twin-overhead cam, 32-valve, 6.0-liter V8 under the hood. Bespoke left well enough alone in this case, sticking with the original 5.5-liter V8. With an original output of just 238 hp, that's an area we'd address immediately if we were lucky enough to bring this beauty home.

Hefty Price

Bringing this beast home will prove easier said than done, however. The gorgeous reimagined machine sports a hefty auction estimate of $250,000 to $300,000, which is undoubtedly justified by the quality of work here. And besides, where are you going to find a real 560 SEC Widebody AMG, anyway?
