Two Engine Variants

The Mercedes Benz X-Class is the world's first premium pickup truck with the comfort and exceptional performance offered by Mercedes-Benz. It's available with either of the two engines: a 4-cylinder or a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder, diesel V6 that packs an extra punch. The latter is one of the most powerful engines of its class. No matter what you pick, you get innovative safety amidst all the posh features.

Based on the Nissan Frontier

The X-Class' platform springs from that of the Nissan Frontier. The 4-cylinder X 250d is based on Nissan-built transmissions and engines. The X 350d brings more diesel power thanks to a V6 turbo diesel engine.

Smooth and Refined

Once you press the starter button fixated on the right of the steering wheel, the X-Class wakes up with a unique refinement not found in many pickup trucks. The V6 is a lot smoother and quieter than the 4- and 5-cylinder variants offered by rival automakers. Inside, you get rubber that's built for the road, fancy interior trim, and an infotainment system from Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle also rides on coil-sprung rear suspension rather than leaf springs. The overall drive is polished and quite impressive for a machine that can carry more than a ton of goods.

A Bit Rugged

The 4MATIC variant has brute strength capable of towing a boat and taking its passengers off-road with ease and comfort. Dynamic off-road capability blends quite well with multiple safety features that you'd expect from Mercedes. The payload capacity stands at 1 ton while that of towing stands at 3.5 tons. Throw anything at the X-Class 4MATIC and it will power right through. Whether its transporting heavy materials under unstable driving, the vehicle performs at its very best.

Performance

The 6-cylinder X-Class comes with a standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission paired with all-wheel drive. The truck is also capable of getting from 0 to 62 mph in just 7.9 seconds. DYNAMIC SELECT allows you to pick your favorite driving mode while Active Lane Keeping Assist helps to maintain your vehicle at the center. When the going gets tough, the X-Class activates its rear differential lock and low-range. According to Mercedes, there are 8.7 inches of ground clearance, 23 inches of wading depth and 30/25 degrees worth of approach/departure angles.

Lots of Features and Safety

Not very many commercial vehicles prioritize safety. As standard, the X-Class features autonomous emergency braking, 360-degree camera, 7 airbags, and lane keeping assist. Other features that provide more functionality include self-parking, LED headlights, Bluetooth, SatNav, and Apple CarPlay.

It's Not Cheap

The X-Class starts at just under $56,000 USD. This is before any options are included. Extras such as a tow pack, leather seats, a sports bar, and many more could easily push the price up by several thousand. When you factor in a 3-year, 125,000 miles servicing and warranty package, the price would set you back close to twice as much as what you'd incur on a rival built in Thailand.

Do you see a need for the X-Class pickup in the US market?
