An ode to the past

The Vision Simplex has arrived at the Los Angeles Auto Show as a passageway from the old era of design to now. The DNA of the Vision Simplex comes from the 35 PS which was unveiled way back in 1901. When it hit the scene at Race Week in Nice that year, the vehicle was a breath of fresh air to the design world and kicked off a new era in shaping what Mercedes would come to be.

Couldn't have said it better

With freestanding outboard wheels and exposed linkages, this two-seater features a rose-gold colored grille inspired by an old-school brass radiator. “Only a brand that is as strong as Mercedes-Benz is capable of the physical symbiosis of history and future,” Mercedes-Benz chief design officer Gorden Wagener said.

One of our favorites

“The ‘Vision Mercedes Simplex’ symbolizes the transformation of the brand-specific luxury of Mercedes-Benz.”

More of a sculpture

Inside the cabin, the design is all about seamlessness and minimalism, featuring a tall steering column, a few switches, and an instrument panel inspired by nautical vehicles. The driving display is an interesting one in that it will only show information that is pertinent to the moment or specific driving situation.

Simply stunning

We doubt that we'd ever see a vehicle of this type ever on the road since the NHSTA frowns upon a car sans a windshield but it's still very cool to think about. Mercedes created a sculpture that harkens back to the old days when folks got in a car and drove just for the experience of it all. Welp here's to daydreams of what could be with this hot rod EV.
