For the few out there not familiar with the G-Wagen, here’s a quick crash course.

So, the type of car that we’re talking about here is referred to as the Mercedes-Benz “Wolf” Gelandewagens. The “wolf” part of the name actually comes from a codename used by the German military for this type of vehicle. In order for a G-Wagen to qualify as a “wolf”, it has to be a convertible. It also must have a fold-down windshield, be a 250GD, and run on diesel fuel.

Introducing Expedition Motor Company

Located about 60 minutes outside New York City in Frenchtown, New Jersey, Expedition Motor Company is a restoration company that does one thing and one thing only – they restore Wolf G-Wagens. It’s their bread AND butter, and if you go to them for anything else, you will pay more for their service.

What sort of restoring are they doing here?

To put it succinctly, everything from the ground up. This is speaking literally, too. Every G-Wagen that rolls into the Expedition shop are completely redone, including things like the car’s pistons and seals as well as its belts, pumps, and more. What’s interesting, though, is that they will not restore a G-Wagen brought in by an owner; rather, they prefer to source their own G-Wagens, restore them, and then sell them.

How much will a restored G-Wagen set you back?

You can go to the company’s website and custom-build your own G-Wagen. Obviously, the more you customize the vehicle, the greater the amount that you’ll wind up spending on it. But, if you’re going for a basic, “wolf” G-Wagen, you’ll find yourself somewhere in the neighborhood of $90k and north.
