Restoration

This 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster looks fantastic, and this largely comes down to the cosmetic restoration it underwent. If you are a fan of classics like we are, you can thank the previous owner for that. And now, it's up for auction for some lucky guy or gal to take home.

Powerplant

Under the hood sits a rebuilt 1.9-liter 4-cylinder engine which uses carefully restored Solex carburetors.

Transmission

All of this model's 104 horsepower runs through a simple 4-speed manual transmission. Driving a classic car such as this is all about how it feels: the oneness that happens between man and machine. Using a manual transmission takes that feeling to the next level when you row the gears and get lost in the experience.

Braking System

The previous owner had installed newer brakes and fitted a restored ATE brake booster to give a bit more confidence in the system. So, even though this model is classed as an 'antique', it should come to a halt as sharply as almost any modern car.

Peace of Mind

Anyone who's buying a 61-year-old car is right to be worried about what condition it's in and even more so at this price point. Thankfully, this model has a refreshed electrical system that's coupled with a rebuilt engine that should give prospective buyers peace of mind.

Fresh Paint

This 190SL was repainted in 2010 and has clearly been well looked after since. I mean it's almost ten years old on the exterior but this paint job is still in outstanding condition.

Not Sluggish

The 1.9-liter engine pumps out 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque which don't stand out in today's automotive scene but back in the day wasn't too shabby. So, this 190SL will get to 62 mph from a standstill in 13 seconds and will keep going to a top speed of 106 mph. That may be a scenario where a Prius will blow past you but it's more than enough for a brisk drive through the countryside.
