The Redesigned 2021 E-Class Looks Awesome

To keep things fresh, an automaker will typically refresh the look and feel of a car about hallway through its lifecycle. A few years back, Mercedes-Benz did this with its S-class, and the German luxury carmaker has since turned its attention to its E-class brand of vehicle. The results are impressive, and while most might say the E-class wasn’t in dire need of an updated look, the changes the company has made are definitely improvements to the vehicle.

First, let’s take a look at some of the car’s new aesthetics

At first glance, you’ll see some pretty major changes to the car’s aesthetics. For one, the front of the car features a completely redesigned LED headlight package which clearly borrows some of the design features from its SUV cousin, the GLE-class. Head over to the car’s rear and you’ll see all-new taillights that definitely borrows its design approach from the company’s new A-class or CLS-class vehicles. Throw in some new wheel designs and more color options, and the E-class vehicle has a whole new “feel” to it.

Powertrains galore

For those who enjoy driving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, you’ll enjoy this bit of news – all E-class sedans can be bought with one of three powertrains. The E350 is outfitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 that produces 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The E450 comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 that can produce 362 hp and 369 lb-ft (before the EQ Boost mild hybrid's electric motor kicks in. And then the E350e couples a 2.0-liter turbo I4 to a 90-kilowatt-hour battery and electric motor, resulting in a plug-in hybrid that can produce 315 hp and 516 lb-ft.

Some nice upgrades to the interior cabin

If you’re building your E-class car, then you’ll have some nice trim finisher to choose from, including a revised burl walnut and a new natural-grain gray ash. There's also a newly designed steering wheel, which is outfitted with capacitive sensors, which are used to determine if / when a driver's hands have left the wheel. The real eye-catcher, though, is a pair of 12.3-inch screens on the dashboard, which come complete with MBUX, the latest iteration of Mercedes' infotainment system. It’s a nice upgrade from previous models in terms of capabilities, as it now includes things like multiple gauge layouts, augmented-reality navigation, a natural-language voice recognition system, and more.

A safer drive

While all of the additional features are nice to have in your new E-class sedan, the engineers at Mercedes-Benz did take time to make the latest iteration of this model a safer driver too. That said, the new E-class will include automatic emergency braking as a standard feature on all cars. Optional upgrades include traffic sign recognition, full-speed adaptive cruise control (with stop-and-go capabilities), active blind-spot monitoring, along with a surround-view camera system with active parking assist.
