Top 5 Fastest Mercedes Production Cars Around The Nürburgring
There are quite a few Mercedes badges in the upper echelon of Nürburgring lap records, including the all-time number 1 spot!
5. Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe GT 63 S 4MATIC+ - 7:23.009
Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times are telling because the long and unforgiving race track is highly taxing for any performance vehicle. The layout features a wide variety of corners and straights to test cars in every possible scenario. It's also an especially reliable measure of consistent performance because there's really no room to cheat on this 12.9-mile track. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4MATIC+ took the lap in a time that is impressive by the standards of most track-focused performance cars, including Porsches. Equipped with the AMG Aerodynamics package and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the 4-door coupe set a lap time of 7:23.009 (7:27 with the new track style). This time puts the AMG GT 4-door coupe just 2 seconds behind the fastest 4-door car on the Ring.
4. Mercedes-AMG GT R - 7:10.92
A lot of the marketing strategy for the AMG GT R was centered around its development for the grueling corners of the Green Hell. So it's no surprise that it was able to achieve such a stunning lap time when tested by Auto Sport in 2016.
3. Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro - 7:04.632 / 7:06.60
A step up from the regular AMG GT R, the Pro provides an even more precise on-track performance. You'll see two separate lap times listed above. That's because the 7:06.60 lap time was set during a test by Auto Sport, while the 7:04.632 was Mercedes-AMG's own attempt back in 2018.
2. Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series - 6:43.616
When the AMG GT Black Series debuted, everyone knew it was going to top the lineup of already impressive AMG GT cars. But not all of us expected it to be able to take the fight to the fastest cars in the world. But that's exactly what happened. When Mercedes made their attempt with the Black Series at the Nürburgring lap record in November 2020, they set the fastest lap up to that point. The record stood for nearly 7 months before it was topped by Porsche's very best, the 991.2 Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR, which is basically a road-legal GT race car.
Still, the AMG GT Black Series holds the top spot among front-engine cars.
1. Mercedes-AMG ONE - 6:30.705
Porsche's reign wouldn't last forever, though. The Mercedes-AMG ONE, developed as the road-legal version of a Formula 1 car, changed the game in October of 2022 when it recorded the world's latest fastest lap by a production car at the Ring. Mercedes-AMG was able to beat the 911 GT2 RS MR's lap time by around 8 seconds to set a record that figures to hold for some time.
