You've Seen the Vision EQS Concept, But How Does it Drive?

Mercedes Benz’s latest concept vehicle, the EQS, has been well received for the range of stats it’s already reporting. Figures like 469-horsepower and 435-mile range have captured the imaginations of many. But how does the car actually perform on the open road? Not many know. Fortunately, the folks at Autoblog.com were given a test run of the futuristic car, and filed the following report.

The review is in and the opinion is…

This is a driving experience like no other. For one, this battery-powered vehicle is silent. There is no roar of a powerful engine, no squealing of tires. You are simply transported from one point to another, quietly, thanks to the car’s in-hub motors which have pushed the wheels to the corners. Coupled with the EQS’s lack of a transmission tunnel, exhaust system, gas tank or big-engine-concealing hood, and you can see how Mercedes Benz made this experience possible.

A new take on outfitting the interior

Autoblog.com noted the Mercedes Benz’s focus on sustainability for its interior design scheme. Microfiber is used, along with vegan leather, as well as reprocessed composite scrap wood. There was also a greater amount of screens included in this particular model – 7 in total.

Seven screens (!)

Let’s start with the biggest one – a gigantic panel located across the entire width of the dashboard. Then there’s a tablet that comes out from the arm rest between the two front seats. Another tablet comes out between the two back seats, and smaller ones come up from each arm rest.

A new look on the outside

The tech-centric focus of the EQS carries to the exterior of the vehicle, with some very impressive LED lighting on the front, rear and sides of the vehicle. There are also some nice design enhancements to the body of the car, as compare to other Mercedes Benz models. Shaved surfacing, elegant curvature, and a – generally speaking – futuristic look gives those looking at this concept car the feeling that they’re looking into the future of vehicular technology.

When will the EQS hit the market?

Believe it or not, fairly soon. Well, soon for a concept car. Mercedes Benz has made it clear the company is super eager to get into the all-electric vehicle market sooner than later. As such, it has stated on record that it will sell an all-electric car (much like the Vision EQS Concept) alongside new gasoline- or hybrid-powered S-Class, as early as the early 2020s.
