Poll- new E55 or CLK55

The W211E55, however, is a major upgrade from the 210.
*horsepower increase from 350 to almost 500
*major improvement in braking system
*upgraded to variable suspension
*huge improvement in what I thought was a very bland and austere interior
*much more up to date appearance
the new E55 price will be between the new CLK55($69,000) and the G55($90,000), outlet that will be feed it with this new car. Those three car are really different each others.

The E will have a significant technological edge, looks like a big miss-step by MB on the CLK I suspect their will be a significant midlife upgrade for the CLK55. Even those of use who might find the stnd. V8 adequate would like to have the advance suspension and features that are available on the E.
Also I don't like the aluminimum trim!

My guess since the German E55 sells for roughly 87,000 eurodollars including the 16% VAT tax, the US version will have an MSRP of $74000-$77000 depending on what will come as standard equipment. That represents a 4-7% increase over the 2002 model. This increase fits in well with the price increases seen on the other AMG cars being upgraded with a supercharger(CL, S). Without the supercharger and less than $10000 price difference, I think CLK55 sales will be low, but it really is a niche car with limited appeal. The four door E family-rocket will be a hot commodity until the M5 is introduced (probably 2 years later) unless it is as butt-ugly as the 7 series. The 5 series probably will be much more conservative than the spy photos suggest as Chris Bangle does not want to be blacklisted from the automotive world for screwing up the once proud marque.
the NEW CLK55 will be in the mid to low $70's range out of door.
they are different car for different buyer.
The car mags have claimed everything from $72K to $88K.
There has not been a particularly tight correlation between Euro pricing and US pricing, and optioning is often different from Euro to US markets.
One pricing rule of thumb seems to be that MB does not want the E55 priced above the S430. But that's certainly not in stone.
We really don't know what the E55 will cost at this point.
Regardless, the performance and amenities of the E55 will be worth more than the likely $5-8K difference in price vs the 209CLK55. Those two are too close in price given the marked improvement in the E55.
Look at the difference between the SL500 and the SL55 and add this to the E500, e.g., the E55 will be fully loaded so take the price of the E500 ($55.5K) add in a pile of options ($5K) add the a good portion of the difference between a SL500 and an SL55 ($20K – $22K) and you get to $80K – $82K.
Also we all have to remember that price has nothing to do with cost (at this market point) and I bet that MB will take the opportunity to make some good $ on what will be a very hot car.
As for the S430, the E500 will be eating a significant number of those sales so I expect the S430 to simply disappear from the lineup or that both the S430, and S500 will become more loaded at the base level and increase in price
This is my guess on the price of the E55 in the US.
....... the E55 will be fully loaded so......

Most indications are that the E55 will NOT be fully loaded, and that's one way that MB will keep the entry price down.
If you look at the UK website, there are several expensive non-standard items for optioning the new E55.
Also, it is a virtual certainty that MB will maintain dual non-AMG S-class sedans, with different engine displacements.
