Any problems with amg??

Hi. Just one more question before i get the car between C63 amg or M3. I hear about lots of M3s having multiple malfunctions keep occuring repair after repair. I hear it from all over the m3 forums and it is happening to DCT and 6MT both. My mind was right in the middle b/w m3 and c63 and after hearing all these problems m3s have , now i am kinna leaning towards to c63 amg. Question is do you guys have any problems with c63s?? like common known problems or engine malfunction etc..... thank you for your time !

No problems here, but I have only had my car for a short time. One big difference is that the C63 is slightly bigger on the inside. That made all of the difference in the world for me as I am 6'4" and need to haul my 5 and 7 year olds in the back. With the M3, I had to put the front seat back so far that it was essentially touching the front of the rear seat. There was no room behind the driver's seat at all in the M3. While the C63 is no full size sedan, there is enough room in them to haul my kids (for the time being). I actually started out intending to buy an M3 and I knew nothing about the C63. I took the whole family to the BMW dealership. We just couldn't fit. We wondered over to the Mercedes dealership across the street and discovered that we could all fit in a C series. I am really happy with the C63 (although it could use some rear flares).

No problems here. ~ 3,500 mi on an '09.

Ummm...did u drive both? So you were leaning toward the M3 over the C63 until you heard about the problems. IMHO the warranty will take care of those issues. Therefore I would not make my decision upon reliability. The C63 and the M3 are both equally unreliable, meaning, you can get one that works well, or you could get a lemon. I've not seen much in between.

Go for what you gut tells you & enjoy.

i think the DCT tranny had a recall where the engine would stop running...

i had an e46 M3 as well and waited until the late end of the second year because of any potential issues...good move too since the early engines starting blowing up b/c of faulty rod bearings

if i had chosen the M3 i would not have touched the DCT in year 1, nor would i touch the MCT if MB launches it in 2010

What I like!
I put down a deposit on the "new M3" in 2005. I waited 3 years for that car and the early problems with the EDC shocks, DCT tranny, the adjustable steering and even the "Premium Sound" system... well, I wasn't about to make another BMW mistake. I admire the BMW brand for its F1-inspired innovation but the headaches, dealer visits, overly complex electronics and lack of around town drivability meant it was time to try something new. I jumped ship and bought my first AMG-MB and I am VERY HAPPY I DID.

As far as problems, I had a bad cam position sensor from the factory -- it failed with only 60 miles on the odo, and it was an easy fix at the dealer. No hassles, treated well and I was given a nice E350 loaner. 7800 miles now and no further problems.

I'm positive the C63 will go down as a much more reliable car than the M3.

MB had its issues with quality and recent JD Power ratings show they have learned from it and improved quality. Now it's BMW's turn.

Like a few others here, I had an issue with squeaky brakes right from the day I picked up the car. Whenever I step on the brakes, they would make an annoying squeaking sound. I thought the brakes needed to be properly bedded in. I also thought it was the front brakes, but the service department tested the car and said it was actually the rear brakes.

They replaced the rear brake pads for me (at about 4,200 km) using a new type of pad that's made of a different compound (the service rep mentioned it was a service bulletin item, but not sure whether that's true or not), and magically, the brakes do not squeak anymore.

09 C63 steel grey
I've wanted either an M3 or M5 for as long as I can remember (at least since college, and that was a while ago - I won't say exactly how long :P), but couldn't afford anything in that range until recently. 2 friends of mine have had a 7 series, 5 series and and X5 between them over the past 5 years. They have all had problems with repeat visits to the dealer for same repairs - usually electronic related, and never resulting in an undriveable car. The 7 series was leased for about 18 months and was in the shop for about 6 or 7 of those months. The loaner he used during thos times was either a 3 or 5 series. Needless to say, when the funds became available I chose Merc (09 C63 AMG Steel Grey)

I'm not guaranteeing that a Mercedes experience will be better, but I can almost guarantee it couldn't be worse.

As for the warranty - it's true that my friends never had to pay out of pocket, but I wouldn't want to be the guy that leased a 740il for 18 months but ended up driving a 3 series for 7 of those months.

I have 3200 miles on my C63 and it has been in the shop 1 time for less than 24 hours for cam sensor replacement - I did get a c300 for a loaner

no problems here except that i've had to add oil once when the alert came on to "check oil." i've had my C63 since May 2008. i've put on 2800 miles so far and rear tires are still good.
