Mercedes-Benz C-Class and C-Class AMG: How to Replace Headlights and Fog Lights

Replacing the bulbs on your C-Class should be easy, but it can be a challenge. The fog lights can only be reached by removing the splash guards, while the headlights only require the hood to be open. Read this article to learn how to replace both on the C-Class.

Functional headlights and fog lights are extremely important in daily driving. When they fail, not only are you liable for a citation, but you can also possibly cause an accident. Replacing the headlight bulbs is a common maintenance procedure that should not take too long. The fog lights are somewhat more difficult, as you must gain access to them from underneath the vehicle. However, using these instructions, you will not have any problems replacing the headlights and fog lights on your Mercedes C-Class or C-Class AMG.

Materials Needed

  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • 8mm socket
  • 3/8" ratchet

Step 1 – Raise and support the car

The car needs to be raised in order to replace the fog lights.

  • Use a jack to quickly raise the car.
  • Place jack stands on the chassis to support it.

Step 2 – Remove the splash guard

Locate the splash guard on the under-body of the car. Use an 8mm ratchet to loosen each bolt, then remove the splash guard.

Step 3 – Replace the fog lights

After removing the splash guard, you will be able to easily access the fog light bulbs.

  • Firmly grab the fog light.
  • Make a 1/8 of a turn counter-clockwise.
  • Pull out the bulb.
  • Grab the bulb from the holder.
  • Replace it.

Step 4 – Replace the headlights

Open the hood of the vehicle to access the headlights. Each headlight has a cover used to prevent moisture from entering into the housing. The covers can be gently pried off.

  • Locate the headlight covers and remove each one.
  • Grab the bulb and turn it 1/8 of a turn.
  • Remove the bulb from the housing.
  • Pull the bulb off the connector and replace it.

Step 5 – Re-install the splash guard

  • Turn the car on and check each light.
  • Reinstall the light covers.
  • Reinstall the splash guards.
  • Lower the car and remove the jack.

Congratulations! You have successfully replaced the headlights and fog lights on your C-Class.
