There are little details you can add to your car that can really bring out its character. A rear lip spoiler is one of those additions that, although is purely aesthetic, can really change the appearance of the car. There are several different brands of spoiler lips available. However, these instructions explain how to properly mount an OEM-specific spoiler on your trunk.

Materials Needed

  • Rear spoiler
  • Double-sided tape
  • Silicone auto adhesive
  • Soap and water
  • Towel

Step 1 – Clean the trunk

  • Thoroughly clean the surface of the trunk.
  • Rinse the surface to remove any loose debris.
  • Then add some soap and wipe down the rest of the trunk.
  • Rinse off the soap and use a towel to dry it off.

Step 2 – Prepare the spoiler

Take the spoiler and place double-sided tape on the bottom edges and corners. Use enough tape to hold it in place, but not enough where it will cause fitment issues. Once done, do not remove the clear cover for the tape.

Step 3 – Align the spoiler

  • Place the spoiler on the trunk and apply masking tape on both corners of the wing.
  • Remove the spoiler.
  • Peel off the double-side tape screens and position the spoiler using the masking tape on the trunk for reference.
  • Be precise; when sure of the spoiler's position, press down firmly to secure it.

Step 4 – Secure the spoiler

  • Take some of the silicone adhesive and apply it on the corners of the spoiler.
  • Press down on the spoiler and wipe any silicone that seeps out from underneath it.
  • Apply masking tape from the spoiler to the trunk to help hold it in position.
  • Leave the tape on overnight and remove it in the morning.
