Mercedes-Benz C-Class: How to Remove Headlight Switch
The headlight switch on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class works really well. After all, the same basic design has been around for 40 years. It's simple to put in your car, but there are a few things you should know when removing it. Read on to learn how to remove this switch.
This article applies to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2007-2014).
Most of the headlight switches in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class follow the same pattern that Mercedes has used for years. Although the innards have been modernized, the same basic rotary switch with a lit knob has been used. Problems start to occur if the headlights start to turn on and off, or the fog lamps, as well as the running lights, don't turn on or off at all. This means a visit to your friendly Mercedes-Benz dealer or finding a new switch at an aftermarket source.

Materials Needed
- Various screwdrivers
- Replacement switch (if replacing)
Step 1 – Locate the headlight switch
Prior to working on the car, disconnect the battery. Release the side dash panel which makes the headlight switch visible.

Move the center knob to the "P" position on the very left.

Step 2 – Remove the wiring harness
Reach with your hand behind the headlight switch underneath the plastic kick panel, and release the wiring harness. The harness is secured with plastic electrical harness clips. Unclasp and go.

Step 3 – Press on the three metal tangs holding the module
After the wiring harness is released, press down on the three metal tabs located on the module. It is a little hard to get to all three tabs at the same time. Locate two small tabs at back of assembly and push out on them in order to release the headlight switch from the holder.

Step 4 – Release the headlight switch from the holder
Release the headlight switch from the holder and then release the chrome trim from the front of the switch.
Step 5 – Remove the three metal tangs
Push down on the metal tangs as the switch slides out of the holder.

Step 6 – Alternate method (optional)
Mercedes-Benz dealers use the following alternate method to remove the headlight switch.
- Turn the switch to the position "P."
- As you are turning to position "P", slide the knob toward you.
- Then slide the knob to "O" and pull towards you again.
- Press down on the three metal tangs.
- As the module is removed, remove the wiring harness.
- Replace the defective switch.
